COMPUTER COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
Each course is held for 6 weeks (one day per week for two hours unless otherwise noted).

We provide instruction on a wide variety of topics for a variety of generations. We can customize the curriculum to fit your needs. This is a sampling of our courses:

COMPUTER 101: INTRODUCTION
(Do not need access to a computer.)

Learn the basic skills of operating a computer. We will explore the computer keyboard and learn how to use the mouse effectively.  We will be introduced to a word processing program in order to type a letter, save it, edit it and print it.  In addition, we will learn how to use a fun art program to draw and paint with the computer.

COMPUTER 102:  INTERMEDIATE
(Must have access to a computer)

This class is recommended for someone who has completed our Computer 101 course or is familiar with Windows and word processing.  We will learn basic formatting techniques in order to create a flyer.  We will discover how to cut and paste and copy and paste text and graphic entries.   In addition, we will learn how to create a chart and use Clip Art.

COMPUTER 103:  ADVANCED INTERMEDIATE
(Must have access to a computer.)

This course is for someone who has completed our Computer 102 course or is familiar with Windows and word processing.  We will learn how to organize and manage our computer files and folders, use keyboard shortcuts and toolbars, and create mailing labels.  In addition, we will work with Clip Art and Word Art to enhance our documents. 

COMPUTER 104:  ADVANCED Computing/PrintMaster
(Must have access to a Computer.)

This 6-week course is designed for people who are very familiar with Windows and Word Processing.  It will include some advanced Microsoft Word features and acquaint you with solutions how to keep you computer running smoothly.  It will discuss ways to stay organized, back up your files, and install software.  You will learn how to perform needed computer maintenance.  The last few classes will introduce PrintMaster, the #1 software for at-home print projects! Learn about this fun software designed to enable you to create greeting cards, banners, signs and more

INTERNET 301:  INTRODUCTION
(Must have access to a computer.)

This class is recommended for someone who has completed our Computer 101 course or is familiar with word processing. Learn what the “Information Highway” is all about and become familiar with Internet terminology and the tools used to surf the net.  We will go on line to explore the Internet and get some hands-on experience using a web browser to explore the World Wide Web.  We will learn how to send, receive and reply to e-mail.  In addition, we will discover how to use search engines to research various topics.

NewINTERNET 302:  E-Bay is E-asy!
(Must have access to a computer.)
 

E-Bay® and Paypal®:
Do you have great-grandma’s ruby glass from the Chicago World’s fair in 1893?  What’s it worth?  Do you want to buy a telescope?  Sell an autographed biography of Winston Churchill?  In this three-hour course, you’ll learn the on-line auction process of E-Bay, and use Paypal to send/receive payment.  E-Bay helps you value what you have, and makes cleaning the attic fun!  Going … going … GONE! 6 Hours *

NewINTERNET 303:  Put The Genius in Genealogy! (Must have access to a computer.)

Family History 1:  Write the Story
In the first part of this course, you’ll be able to answer that nagging question, “Where did I come from?”  Create family trees, input photos and add stories that generations will enjoy! By using the computer to store your memories and research, you’ll be able to share your “album” with everyone in the family … even if they live thousands of miles away! 6 Hours *

INTERNET 304: Family History 2:  Restore the Photos
Your mother always said, “Beauty is only skin deep.” The family photos may be faded and scratched, but what’s underneath is what counts!  All of the details are still there; you just can’t see them any more: Great-grandma might be driving the Model-T and Great-grandpa could be wearing a straw boater!  In the second part of the course, you’ll learn how to scan your photos, then restore and save them for generations to come.  The dim past will soon be out in the open!  4 Hours *

Computer  401 - INTRODUCTION TO USING A SCANNER, DIGITAL CAMERA AND SCRAPBOOKING

This fun hands-on course will introduce you to the world of digital images using a digital camera and scanner.  You will learn to create more memorable images by using formats provided by the Scrapbooking software.  Week 1, 2, 3 will discuss scanning, digital camera and advanced printing features.  Week 4, 5, 6 will cover installing and using the many fun and useful features of the Scrapbooking software.  You can purchase the Scrapbooking program for an additional $30. This course is for those who have experience with word processing.

NewComputer 402 - DIGITAL CAMERA AND PHOTO EDITING

This fun hands-on course will introduce you to the world of digital imaging and editing. The first 4 weeks will include using your digital camera, scanning and advanced printing features. Week 5 & 6 will cover editing your pictures to help you make the most of your digital photos.

           
NewComputer 501 - Using MS Outlook® for Task/Calendar Management

Save Time … Save Money!
You may never have to say “I don’t know what to do first!” or “It slipped through the cracks” ever again.  Let Outlook help you organize what you have to do, and when to do it!  In this course you will learn how to enter meetings, doctors’ appointments, or your tee times … and be reminded of them in advance!

 NewComputer 502 – Office Skills (3 weeks Word and 3 weeks EXCEL)

Are you ready to go back to work? Are you looking to brush up on your office skills? This course is for you. Three weeks of Office Word on everyday office tasks and three weeks of EXCEL working on  office projects.

 NewComputer 601: Office Skills – Beginner EXCEL (4 weeks 1.5 hrs per week)

You will be creating a basic worksheet entering text, values, and formulas. Create formulas by using Excel’s built-in functions. Move and copy data by using shortcut menus, drag-and-drop editing, editing and toolbar buttons. Change the appearance of worksheet data by using a variety of formatting techniques. You will prepare a document for printing by using the spell checking feature and a variety of printing options. Use the three-dimensional aspect of the Excel workbook environment by creating formulas that refer to cells on multiple worksheets. You will save Excel workbooks and selected data as Web pages. Please bring example projects with you.
